2017 Re-Draft

What if the 2017 Draft had a do-over? Here is where players were picked in the first round and where they should have been picked: 1. Dansby Swanson - Claysburg. Based on talent and needing a future shortstop, this was a great pick. Based on what happened in 2017 the better pick would have been Aaron Judge. Who knew? 2. Andrew Benintendi - Oahu. I can't see an option for Oahu where this wasn't a good pick. Oh wait, Bobby Wilson is your catcher? I might have gone Gary Sanchez here. Catchers are a little harder to find than outfielders. 3. Gary Sanchez - Canfield. The next best player. Can't see anything wrong with picking him here. 4. Alex Bregman - Brighton. Bregman, then Contreras. Two harder positions to fill. The next two off most draft boards. Seems reasonable to me. 5. Wilsson Contreras - Brighton 6. Julio Urias - Halifax. This guy could potentially be a stud. He might be the right pick here. If Halifax had it to do over I am guessing he might have taken Fulmer instead. 7. Michael Fulmer - Lake Isabella - The best pitcher on the board at that time. 8. David Dahl - Nassau. Good pick for Nassau at the time, if, he had stayed healthy in 2017. I'm guessing Nassau wishes he had taken Trea Turner with either of his next couple picks. 9. Kenta Maeda - Nassau. If you needed pitching this was the best guy on the board that was remaining. 10. Trea Turner - Oahu. Let me get this straight, Oahu drafted Benintendi, Turner, and Judge in this draft? 11. Nomar Mazara - Spokane. Another good pick for current and future value. Hopefully he figures out how to field. Can't think of a better pick in this position unless you have the gift of foresight that Oahu has and you take Travis Shaw at this point. 12. Aledmys Diaz - Halifax. Filled a need for the playoff team. Was the right pick at the right time. 13. Seung-hwan Oh - Bowling Green. If you want to win the World Series you take a reliever in the first round, it's just what you do. 14. Trevor Story - Omyassis. Another need for the Omyassis team. I can't see them finding a better shortstop option at this point. 15. Alex Reyes - London. Another possible stud. I'm guessing London wished they had taken Giolito, Bundy, or Berrios at this point though. 16. Jameson Taillon - Spokane. Solid pick placement. Interchangeable with the guys taken after him. 17. Chris Devenski - Vero Beach. Probably wishes he had taken someone else as the season went South. Maybe a good spot for a Bundy or someone that ended up starting. 18. Edwin Diaz - Claysburg. Honestly don't know enough about Edwin Diaz to make a suggestion on this one. We'll assume he was the best pick. 19. Orlando Arcia - Kansas City. KC got on the shortstop bandwagon. He is turning out alright. 20. Sean Manaea - San Antonio. Solid pick to end the first round. Looks pretty decent to me. Other notables - Round 2: Dylan Bundy, Lucas Giolito, Josh Bell. Round 3: Jose Berrios, Aaron Judge. Round 5: Travis Shaw. Round 9: Felipe Rivero. Round 17: Tommy Pham Obviously the big one that got lost in the shuffle was Judge in the 3rd. I managed to pick up a couple guys that are going to pay huge dividends for me this year later in the 2017 draft, showing that it really is just a giant craps shoot.
