OREGON BEAVERS 2013 PREVIEW

OREGON BEAVERS 2013 PREVIEW:

Drafting for Oregon Beavers seems to be tough choice with their number #1 pick in 2nd round of the TBA 2013 draft.  Picking catching prospect Erik Kratz turn some eyes.  I am sure others will miss out of this prospect if he pans out to be what we want.   Key to get Jason Grilli from Brighton during the draft was a plus.  Well here is a look at the team for 2013

At first base the last years #1 draft pick, Paul Goldschmidt to see action against LHP and against the RHP is the faithful Michael Morris.   Defense is not the best in the league but Goldie will provide late inning help.

At second base will have a log jam of players against the southpaw pitcher will be Daniel Descalso and his defense in the late innings will be greatly appreciated.  Against the right-handed pitchers will have Emilio Bonifacio and his defense will be overshadowed by his offense.  Elian Herrera may see some action at this position.

At third base will have Jordan Pacheco against the southpaw pitcher and Placido Polanco will see action against the right-handed pitcher. Best defense is Placido playing the hot corner.  No home run threat here.

At shortstop will have Nick Punto against the southpaws and Jimmy Rollins will see action against RHP

Playing left field will have some new faces with the drafting Charlie Blackmon, Elian Herrera and Sam Fuld may see some action in this position.  Against the southpaw is Chris Denorfia starting and Juan Pierre will leadoff against the right-handers.

Playing center field against southpaw is Andres Torres and against right-hander is Roger Bernadina only limited by on-base rules and Emilio Bonifacio may see action when not playing second base.

Play right field will be the old faithful beaver of Carlos Beltran and his power bat will have success worded for the Beaver fans.

At catcher the Beaver management drafted George Kottaras, Erik Kratz  and Chris Gimenez which provides a new look here.  George’s power bat will see action against right-handers and Erik Kratz seeing action as defensive comes into to view and his bat will not hurt to play him.  Chris Gimenez and faithful Lou Marson will see action against the southpaw pitchers

On-base was the key to drafting people we will see if this pans out to be the right drafting.  Only power bat was drafted at catchers of George Kottaras and Erik Kratz.

Starting pitching has taken a new look with drafting Luis Mendoza, Carlo Zambrano, Erik Bedard and Kevin Millwood which is added to the staff of Mark Buehrle, Jason Hammel , Jeff Niemann and Colby Lewis.  The baseball Beavers has the arms to stop the opposition.  We will see in 2013

The rolaids crew will see some new faces too, drafting Darin Downs, Matt Capps, Cory Gearrin, Sam Freeman and Pedro Figuroa while trading for Jason Grilli and having the faithful hold over of Clayton Mortensen will add options for late inning heroics.  Closers roll will have Sergio Romo and Javy Guerra to save wins for the Beavers

The Beavers hope to be completive this season while winning maybe a tough chore in 2013.

  2. I think that this team is going to have some issues both offensively and in the pitching department. Might be a good time to consider moving some pieces and re-building (Romo, Buehrle, Beltran)... Goldschmidt would be one guy that I would hold onto. He is good defensively, is good (and still improving) offensively, and even provides speed at the 1B position. I could see him being a top 5 1B in the near future.

  3. Michael Morris = Michael Morse 8-)

Yeah, I basically agree with Eamonn. Some guys who could fetch some decent young guys/picks on this team, but not enough to compete with the powerhouses in your league. Going into rebuild takes some patience, but it's better than being a perpetual .500 club, IMO
