Michael Pineda struck out 12 batters as the Evanston Wildcats defeated the San
Antonio Alamos in 12 innings by the score of 5 to 4 at Turner Field.
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Evanston ended up winning it in the 12th
inning. David Ortiz drew a walk. Matt Holliday stepped up to the plate and
he lashed a single. James Loney then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jose
Molina dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Robert Andino came
up to bat and drew a walk to load the bases. Rajai Davis kept the rally
going and laced a base-knock making Evanston the winners and sending the
26,945 fans home happy. For the game Evanston out-hit San Antonio 17 to 9.
The victory was credited to Jordan Walden(2-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Cristhian Martinez(1-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 1
run and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
The Evanston ballclub's record now stands at 57-59. With this loss, San
Antonio has a 6-4 record of late, 70-55 overall.
