After suffering through 2 consecutive 100+ loss seasons, there could be a glimmer of hope in Nassau this year. After building a competent starting rotation over the past 2 seasons, the G-Men have started to build up some offense for 2012.
Starters
1-Zack Greinke
2-Hiroki Kuroda
3-Daniel Hudson
4-Luke Hochevar
5-Jeff Karstens
6-Rick Porcello
7-Chris Young
the rotation continues to be the strength of the Nassau team with a very solid top 3 ... the next 3 with Hochevar, Karstens and Porcello should combine to make for a solid if unspectacular 4-5 slots in the rotation and Chris Young will be able to deliever a pretty solid 3 or 4 starts in Septemebr.
Catchers
Mike Napoli/Ryan Doumit
Napoli will be great this year even providing a -1 arm while Doumit should be a solid back-up filling in for the missing AB's with Napoli's limited usage card
1st Base
Carlos Pena/Gaby Sanchez
Pena & Sanchez should provide an above average 1st base platoon with OBP & Power
2nd Base
Daniel Murphy/Reuben Tejada
Murphy provides solid offense at 2nd and Tejada can be a late inning defensive replacement as well as solid OBP when filling in for the limited usage card of Murphy ... also hope for the future as Tejada takes over as the Mets starting SS with Jose Reyes leaving for Miami
Shortstop
Johnny Pheralta
much like 2nd base Pheralta will provide solid offense at SS leaving something to be desired defensively
3rd Base
Mark Reynolds/Brett Lawrie
as Mark M called him 'old frying pan hands' Mark Reynolds (3B-5)and his 37 HR's will get the majority of the playing time at 3rd Base while 1st rd pick Lawrie will fill in for defense and some very good AB's vs RHP, with a definite look towards the future
Left Field
Brennan Boesch/JD Martinez
Boesch will get the majority of playing time in LF with newcomer JD Martinez playing vs LHP ... Martinez looks to be the starter in Houston this year and we can only hope Lamannas prediction of 25 HR's will come true
Center Field
Coco Crisp/ Ryan Sweeney
Solid defense from both in CF while definitely lacking in offensive production, Sweeney can also be a late in defensive replacement at the corner OF positions ... it
will be nice to have 1 good defensive position on the team
Right Field
Corey Hart/ Lucas Duda
Hart and Duda should provide a solide L/R platoon with some OBP & power
Bullpen
John Axford/Closer
Rex Brothers
David Carpenter
Scott Elbert
Frank Francisco
Dan Wheeler
Jason Frasor
Taylor Buchholz
Jason Isringhausen
Chris Capuano/Long Relief
Brad Bergesen/Long Relief
Axford is the lone bright spot out of the pen and will close ... mgr Steve Garafalo will have to cobble together the rest of his pen among promising limited inning rookies(Carpenter,Brothers,Elbert) and retreads looking to have a bounce back season (Fransisco,Wheeler,Frasor)along with a couple of long-men (Capuano & Bergesen) to eat up some innings.
Bench
Jake Fox
Mark Derosa
Jon Herrera
Jay Gibbons
Manny Burriss
Brandon Crawford
Aaron Cunningham
Overall outlook is solid starting pitching and an improved offense while overall lack of team defense and a shaky pen ... it could be another long season in Nassau but hopefully a better record than the last 2 sub 60 win seasons

Your consecutive 100 loss sesons should end this year. I won't go as far as to say playoffs, but you are definately going in right direction. You have some nice SP and power. Obviously defense is lacking, but it is all prt of the rebuild.
ReplyDeleteIf your season does not go as you like, you have some nice trade pieces that should net you a nice haul.
Having to play Washington so many times this year won't help the record, but I think you made some sound decisions this year picking up Lawrie and NOT dealing Napoli.
Definitely a team on the rise, but cover your eyes when you are in the field!
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ Joe my DP combo Of Reynolds, Pheralta and D Murphy will remind people of Tinkers to Evers to Chance
