Justin Verlander reeled off a total of 14 strikeouts at Tropicana Field as the
Vero Beach Bums won in their last at-bat beating the Washington Booze Hounds
by the count of 3 to 2.
 
The deciding run was scored by Vero Beach in the bottom of the 9th.  Nelson
Cruz smashed a solo-shot out of the park making Vero Beach the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration.  Despite losing, Washington out-hit
Vero Beach 10 to 7.  
 
The victory went to Verlander(3-1) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Sean
Burnett(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.  
 
Verlander was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun out
there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We got the
victory and I'll sure take 14 strikeouts anytime!'
