Buzz in Napa

There is quite a buzz over the newly established franchise in Napa. With just a few weeks left until the new ballpark is complete, fans are beginning to get anxious to check out some baseball. Although newly formed, the Napa Winers management team has had a very busy offseason thus far. While there is still the rookie/free agent draft to complete, Napa manager Eamonn Dymer is very excited about his team's offense. Depending on how the draft pans out, this is how he says his opening day line-up will look...

2b- Placido Polanco
rf- Ben Zobrist
DH- Miguel Cabrera
1B- Justin Morneau
LF- Adam Dunn
3b- Juan Uribe (vs right)/ Jeff Keppinger (vs left)
CF- Rick Ankiel (highly dependent upon how draft turns out)
ss- Cliff Pennington
c- Jason Varitek

Bench- SS Adam Everett, OF Johnny Gomes, INF Clint Barmes.
Starters- Tim Lincecum, A.J. Burnett, Joba Chamberlain
Bullpen- Jonathan Papelbon, George Sherrill, Brian Fuentes, Darren O'Day

With his pre-draft roster set, Eamonn has a much clearer picture of his needs in the draft. When asked about his draft plans, Eamonn had this to say:

"I don't think there is any secret that we need to find some help in the rotation, as well as possibly find a starting centerfielder. Ankiel is still going to be a little limited due to his tragic run-in with the wall last year, but we are hoping he can revert to form. Drafting #10 overall in the first round, a lot will be dependent upon what is gone once our spot comes up. If the top flight centerfielders are gone, our choice will be made much easier. But if one of the 3 (Fowler, Rasmus, McCutchen) are around, then it'll be tough to decide between one of them and a starter. Of course, we need another arm or two in the bullpen too. I do know that the league had better supply us with a LOT of baseballs because they are going to be flying all over the place. There should be plenty of souvenirs!!!"

  1. That's going to be a pretty wicked offense there. Zobrist/Miggy/Morneau/Dunn is about as terrifying a 4some as there is in the league.
If you can get some complements to Lincecum, you could be seriously competitive in your first year.
