32,983 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Albany Veterans won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Albany came up with 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning. The key at-bat was
by Jason Giambi who helped quiet the crowd when he popped a two-run clout
over the fence (his 13th of the season). San Antonio threatened in the 9th
but their rally came up short.

The victory was credited to Randy Johnson(8-2) who went 6 innings, allowing 1
run. Johnson was helped out by Mariano Rivera who recorded his 20th save.
Brandon Webb(5-6) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing
10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Monster Comeback, Stellar Bullpen, and Manny's Steroids Help Vero Beach Take Two of Three in Quad City, Wherever That is

Down six in the fourth inning, Vero Beach scored seven unanswered runs to defeat Quad City 7-6 in twelve innings.

Quad City chased Vero Beach starter Jared Weaver after just 3 2/3 innings and seemingly had control of the game. They didn't count on the Bums' bullpen, though.

Capped by three near-perfect innings by K-Rod, the Bums' bullpen pitched nine scoreless innings, giving up just five hits, while the offense mounted the comeback.

Manny Ramirez could not be pitched to. He cranked out two of the four homeruns Mallard's ace, Mike Mussina, surrendered. The game was tight and it seemed the Bums were poised to score every inning. Nelson Cruz was 2 for 6 with a homerun, but those six at-bats are going to haunt owner David Gandy at the home stretch, when he needs them against a playoff team.

Despite the loss, the Mallards bright spot was a 5 for 6 day by Alfredo Amezaga, who had been inexplicably benched by the previous Quad City owner. Marco Scutaro also had three hits in the loss.
